The differences between a 2018 and 2019 vehicle model might not seem significant, and normally, they aren’t. While some car companies don’t offer much in terms of upgrades, Ford completely changed the overhaul of the F-150 and Raptor. There are a few changes between the Ford F-150 Raptor 2018 vs. 2019 model you’ll want to be aware of if you’re considering making the switch.
2018 F-150 Raptor
The Raptor is a pickup truck designed for off-road capabilities. The 2017/2018 and 2019 Raptor models have an aluminum frame with steel frame rails. This infrastructure includes a torque-on-demand system, which provides all-wheel-drive capability and four-wheel-drive durability. It does not use a typical V8 engine, but rather a high output version of the 3.5L EcoBoost V6. It comes with full-size 17” silver aluminum wheels. Plus, the FOX suspension provides comfort and durability during on- and off-road adventures. There is a specifically designed “FORD” grille with clearance lights, front fenders, and bed which also appear on the 2019 model. Along with traditional colors, the 2018 model comes in a lightning blue color. For the interior, buyers will find standard leather seating and a simulated carbon fiber panel with an orange color option. Furthermore, there is a “tow” button located on the side of the gear stick for convenience. On the steering wheel, you will see a “mode+” button on the top and “mode-“ button on the bottom to select drive modes.
2019 F-150 Raptor
One of the most significant changes in the 2019 model is the newly updated FOX suspension and shock absorbers, which improve off-road capability. Trail Control allows for direct torque to the wheel with the highest traction. This makes driving in the sand or other demanding road conditions smoother. More so, you can confidently drive over potholes or big bumps as the updated FOX shock suspension system offers a smooth and comfy rebound. Uniquely, the suspension systems include adaptive bumpers. These bumpers use sensors to prepare the suspension dampers for rough performances. The truck itself is large and aggressive—the body is available in velocity blue or the Ford Performance Blue, and the wheels are of a different design. The wheels are an updated Magnetic Metallic style rather than the previous matte grey. There are also some noticeable changes in the interior. The seats have a patterned, textured cloth, and there is a brushed black panel, and the simulated carbon fiber option is still available. Further, the blue RECARO seat option replaced the 2017/2018 orange accented seats, but the carbon fiber trim is still available. There is no longer a “tow” button on the gear stick as found in the 2017/2018 model. However, you can still select a drive mode via the “mode+” and “mode-“ buttons on the steering wheel.
For both models, drivers will have access to their controls through the digital dashboard. Here you’ll notice the pickup’s active braking and pre-collision system. It also has adaptive cruise control and all-wheel drive support and power distribution. Plus, you can check your towing and trailer status, digital speedometer, engine oil information, and trip-fuel usage. Additionally, you should also consider the auto-start/stop feature before purchasing. This feature shuts off your engine when you come to a stop for considerably long periods to conserve fuel. You can temporarily turn it off this feature, but it will reset when you turn the truck off. At the front of the truck, you’ll find a digital touch board where you can control audio, climate, phone, navigation, apps, and a 360-degree camera. You can control other settings as well, such as the brightness, door code. In the 2019 model specifically, drivers will have a unique hot spot activation feature.
